Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” January is notoriously the month where one thinks about their New Year’s Resolutions. However, December may be a more apt time to do as such, because once January rolls over, you’re required to hit the ground running! As you take some time to reflect upon 2015 – your highs and lows – ask yourself: is this year what you expected it to be? Did you achieve all your goals? If not, why not? It may sound tedious to sit and draft a Roadmap for 2016, but if you look to any successful business, strategising sessions have already been conducted to forecast for 2016. Heck, those who have ever planned a wedding will know that every eventuality needs to be planned for. So why do we let another year go by, and when we sit and reflect in December, we’re still sitting with those extra kilos we wanted to lose, or we’re still in a dead end job, or we still haven’t visited the places we dreamed of?
I may be somewhat presumptuous by assuming that you have not achieved all you wanted to in 2015. However, if you are like me, there are (for the most part) some New Year’s Resolutions that will roll over to yet another year. One of the main reasons we don’t reach the goals we may set for ourselves is because we state what we want, but we don’t come up with a strategy – or roadmap – regarding the journey we need to take to get there. For example, if you want to be flourishing in a new role in your career next year, what are the steps you are taking today to reach that destination? I challenge you to take a few moments utilising the Roadmap to Success Holistan has devised, and whether it be in the realm of your career or your personal life, strategise and plan for how you endeavour to reach your goals in 2016, so that when December 2016 arrives, you can reflect on how much you managed to achieve. And remember – things never always go according to plan. Be flexible enough to deal with hiccups along the way, but keep focused of your goals. *Feel free to copy & duplicate the below Roadmap to Success, fill it in, and review it at least once a month to ensure you are on the correct path Realising my plan for next year: My dream for 2016 is to: *name as many desires / New Year’s Resolutions as you wish A) Career 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ B) Family 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ C) Life in general 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ My top GOALS, orientated toward achieving my dreams, which guide my EFFORTS, govern my PRIORITIES, and generate my ACTIONS are: *set a “deadline” to each goal A) Career 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ B) Family 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ C) Life in general 1. ___________________________________________ 2. ___________________________________________ 3. ___________________________________________ I have vowed to maintain a POSITIVE attitude; Every day, I will: ______________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Reaching my Maximum Potential: I am committed to PERSONAL GROWTH, thus I will dedicate one hour a day, five days a week, to: __________________________________________________________________________________ My mentor is: ______________________________________________________________________ I will not give in to Life’s detours.
